I am an economics major with a great passion for sports. I was thinking about figuring out the positive or negative aspects professional sports have on the economy and explain why that is the case. Another, idea I had was that I could write about a favorite player or sports team.

Hi Chris! I think you will be able to construct a strong, argumentative thesis using your first idea. Perhaps you could focus on one team? See what the economic impact would be on a local community? I would spend tomorrow searching for scholarly articles with similar subjects--I am not sure how difficult it would be to find this economic impact data. For your second idea a descriptive paper of your favorite athlete is not sufficient for this paper--you need an argumentative edge. Do an article search and see how people integrate athletes into their writing, perhaps that would help you figure out a potential thesis for this topic.
